The Sayles family monument.

This monument is huge...almost taking up 1/4 of space on the lot. A student, dressed in Classical Greek garb, is reading a book, with more at his feet, as though he were studying. Made of bronze, it was for one of the Sayles boys that had died at age 21. He had attended Brown University at the time. Inside the lot are flat stone markers for other family members. Underneath the statue is two Latin inscriptions: in back (not shown) is "Requesiat in Pace" and the other (in front) is "Qui enternat in Me."

Surrounding the edge are five more turrets, such as the one shown above. On the left, but not visible in the picture, are a set of stone stairs, which leads to the top; the steps are made of grey marble. The turrets and stone edging is of rose marble. The vantage point inside is wonderful...you can see a good distance of the cemetary, no matter where you stand.

Circa 1925.
