Our Pet(s)
These curious stones I found on a hillside, near the Seamans' monument. The
stone in the foreground was almost toppled, but now sits at an angle. These
stones are copies of each other, with curled cornices and a raised notch,
with one difference: a rosebud (the stone in the foreground) and a blooming
rose (background) Both have a raised "dog-bone" shaped emblem with "Pet"
in Old English Script. The foreground has the inscription on the back of
B. Hubbard (1898-99), and the background has E. Van Dyne (1889, aged 9 months).
One inscription on the base is difficult to read, but the other is legible.
It reads: "What would life Be without You?"
