I liked this stone
because of the simplicity of it......simple black slate with engraving.
One thing I found curious was the Circle on the top--this was the first
time I'd ever seen such an ornamentation. According to symbology, the
Circle represents the Family Unit; broken, represents the severing or a
loss of the family.......that's why I found this to be unique, since it
isn't broken.
The epitaph reads:
"In Memory of Mrs. MARIA,
wife of
Mr. Hiram Barrows,
who died Nov. 14 1839,
aged 51 years."
The rest is worn; as the weather allows I will most likely fill in some
blanks that I was unable to do in this shoot. This is on the hill
toward the back, near some trees.
