This is another lovely example of the detail involved with
some stones of the 1700's. The inscription reads: "Here
lies y Body of Mrs. Margaret George: the Wife of Mr. Iofhua (Joshua)
George.
Dec'd Feb 3 ye 1717 in ye 55th Year of her Age." The
biblical passage,
underneath, is difficult to read (due to wear and time.) This stone is
made
from a solid piece of granite, with scrolls (or vines) running along
each
side, and the Winged Angel atop the Heart, and two smaller angels in
the
nook of each side.
The Heart used for the inscription is representative of the Soul in
Bliss,
or the Abode of the Soul; the Angel's Head represents rebirth, and the
vines
are memory and fidelity. The spelling of Joshua's name is an archaic
use
of the long "s" and the "i" is another form of "j." This is toward the
back
of the cemetery.
