This is the Pastor of
the First Congregational Church in South Attleborough. Made of dark
shale, it has the Angel wearing a wig (prevalent of the men of that
time), with eyes open; heavily carved scrolls are on both sides and
underneath the epitaph. It reads, thus:
"The remains of the Rev'd
HABIJAH WELD, M.A.,
late the faithfull worthy & beloved Paftor
of the full Church of Chrift
in Attleborough.
He was born Sept ye 2nd, 1702;
He was ordained Oct'r 1st, 1727;
He dyed May 12th, 1782
in ye 80 year of his Age
in his 55th year of his Paftorage."
The bottom reads:
"....vain world, as thou hast been...
Dust & a (faithfullness?) thefe
I leave with thee;
To (soften?) Vital Substance to commit
...Life, Light and Love...."
(Again, weather permitting, I will go back and get the rest of this...)
