The Browns, Sarah and her son, William Jr.
I found this stone facinating because it's a double stone...one solid piece. The angel on the larger part has its eyes closed; the smaller, for William, has the eyes open. The stone reads thus:

"Sarah Brown, Wife of William Brown, in the Colony of ye Rhode Island,
departed this lyfe August 10, 1744, in the 24th year of her Age.
In Memory of William Brown, son of Mr. William and Sarah Brown, his wife, of the Colony of ye Rhode Island, departed this lyfe August 23, 1744, aged 13 days."

Childbirth then is nothing like it is today...many women died during or soon after the birth. Children born too small or sickly also died. I'm glad we live in modern times where such things are a rarity.
